BES Scanner

Clicking the image below will launch a Quicktime stream of 911 services radio here in Blacksburg, Virginia. Covering EMS, Fire and Police radio broadcasts. If you happen to be listening on Tuesday nights you might even catch me on the radio! :)

Note:

Mac users need only click the link about to launch Quicktime and listen in. For Windows users, this will not be as easy.

Windows users have two options.
1.) Right click on the image above and copy the link location and then paste it into your VLC or Quicktime player.

2.) If you use VLC you can download the registry file located here…

reg_file
(Right click the image above and save the link to your desktop)

Once downloaded, you just need to double click the file to add the lines to your registry. It will instruct Windows, and therefore Firefox, on how to handle the RTSP protocol. This registry file is virus free and if you want to see the contents of the file you can simply open it with Notepad or WordPad. The contents of the file are as follows…

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\rtsp]
@=”Real Time Streaming Protocol”

“URL Protocol”=”"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\rtsp\shell]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\rtsp\shell\open]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\rtsp\shell\open\command]
@=”\”C:\\Program Files\\VideoLan\\VLC\\vlc.exe\”%1″

Alternatively, if you prefer to use Quicktime, you just simply replace the last line that points to the default directory of the VLC install path to your Quicktime install path.

Personally, I recommend VLC for several reasons. If you would like to use VLC, you can download it here. It’s a far better media player than Window Media Player or Quicktime in my opinion and it’s free!

Welcome to Roaming Gecko

The Gecko

Welcome to the last page on the Internet. This has to be the last page because I don’t think you would be here if it wasn’t. You have browsed to every other page on the Internet and now you are here because you have read everything else. Well, as long as you are here I will try to entertain you as best I can. Some of the things you might read about on this site will deal with computers, photography, gaming and rescue but I will undoubtedly rant on some off the wall topics every once in a while. So, sit back. Do a little reading on the minutiae of my life and hopefully you’ll get a good laugh out of it from time to time. I’d thank you for stopping by but we both know you didn’t have any where else to be! :)
