Got a little bored waiting for a phone call today and whipped up some Super Mario Brothers ringtones for my iPhone using GarageBand. Thought I would post them online in case any one else was a SMB fan and had and iPhone. There are ringtones from SMB 1 through 3 as well as one for the New Super Mario Brothers in the archive. Just import them into iTunes and they will be listed under Ringtones. All, except the New Super Mario Brothers Theme, are 28 seconds in length and fade out over the last five seconds of the loop. The New Super Mario Brothers ringtone is 39 seconds. It was a late addition to the pack.

Friends - The Complete Series Collection

I’ll start by telling you that I am a huge fan of the television series Friends. There has never been, and I doubt ever will be, a show that I have enjoyed more than this show. I have seen every episode at least a dozen times each and because of that have most of the dialog committed to memory. So, when I found out that they had the entire show, all ten seasons, on DVD I started thinking of purchasing the set. The price tag was a little daunting but eventually I caved.

Then came the surprise. After watching the show from the DVD’s I started noticing dialog and scenes that I couldn’t remember ever seeing before. At first I thought it was just me not remembering some of the events in the show but after experiencing this with every episode I finally came to the conclusion that it was dialog and scenes that had been cut from the original episodes to fit network time constraints.

Some of the edited dialog was quite amusing and had me watching several episodes during a single sitting just to see the new material. So, for a Friends fan this little surprise was a very welcome, if unexpected, gift.

So, if you are thinking of picking up this set yourself hopefully I have just given you one more reason to do so!

It’s an open source social networking software package, think Facebook or MySpace, that gives users of RoamingGecko more tools and ways to get involved here at the site. The software is still in its infancy and I still have some tweaking to do but the site is up and operational and ready for users. With the new site you can add and maintain friend’s lists, create groups, share files, upload pictures and videos, carry on group discussions. I am planning on adding more features over the coming weeks so stay tuned. I recommend that you join the New Users Group once you register. If you have any questions on how to use the new site you can post your questions there.

Of course, with the addition on the PS3 to the living room I also spent some time with a few games for that system as well.

All told I played a lot of games over the holidays. On the PS3 side; Metal Gear Solid 4. LittleBigPlanet, Resistance, Resistance 2, Ratchet and Clank. On the Xbox360; Gears 2, Bad Company, Fable 2, Banjo & Kazooie: N&B, The Orange Box, Kameo, Lost Odyessy, Civilization: Revolution, Call of Duty: World at War.

The gamefest had as much to do with having so much time off as it did the new wide screen HD TV. Yes, 1080p gaming is where it’s at.

Well, I learned a couple of always valuable lessons today. Always, always, back up your WP tables. Second lesson learned, while posting from your iPhone may be convenient, managing your WP blog from your iPhone not so much. While attempting to get the WP iPhone app to work I made a test post. After a few unsuccessful tries and a little tweaking, I got it to post to the blog. However, when I tried to deleted this test post from my blog using the browser on my iPhone, I deleted all the blog entries I have made since the end of June.

How did I manage to do this you ask? Well, when you’re not zoomed in on the page on your iPhone and try to click a link, you’re liable to click just about any link. First I inadvertently clicked the “select all” radio button and then when I attempted to uncheck it I hit the delete button that is just above that. It then deleted all the posts there were checked. Typically delete conformation buttons annoy the hell out of me but this one time I think I wouldn’t have minded it.

At first I was extremely irritated but then I tried to remember what I had blogged about in the last three weeks and other than the post I made yesterday I couldn’t remember any of them and figured if they weren’t that memorable then I didn’t really lose any thing now did I? If I don’t remember them then whom ever might be reading this blog surely wouldn’t so the world was no better off than before.

Lessons re-learned.

I went ahead and added a forum to the site. RoamingGecko over the years had a forum area but to be honest it was rarely used. I re-added them to the site mainly for the few people that choose to contact me through the forums as they have in the past. I will monitor them so feel free to use them as another way to contact me. Enjoy!

I went Asheville this past weekend for a little mini-getaway. It was my 4th trip down to Asheville and the Biltmore Estate. You would think I would be pretty bored with the place at this point but then again this visit proved to be another first.

Saturday was spent just walking around downtown. Asheville has lots of little shops to stop in and browse through. Eclectic and at the same time very interesting. I think you could literally spend days visiting them all.

The next day we drove out to the Biltmore Estate. As soon as we got out of the car I noticed something odd. There was this overwhelming hum, almost mechanical in nature but too consistent to be man made. I couldn’t quite place it. To be honest, the din from the countryside was a bit annoying. Just the right frequency to drill into your head. Once we got up to the “big house” it was all too apparent what was causing the noise. Cicadas. Billions of them. Ok, realistically it probably only numbered somewhere in the tens of millions but there had to be an insane number for them to be able to produce that loud, constant hum. There were more insects flying around than I had ever seen in my life. They were every where. In the car later that day I was hitting one every 4 or 5 seconds. It was almost as amazing a sight as the Biltmore itself. As always, the Biltmore was spectacular. American excess to the extreme to be sure, but still fascinating. If you haven’t paid a visit to Asheville, it certainly is a must see.
